On January 22, 2023, Lieutenant Willie A. Allen (aka Pip) went to be with the Lord. Lt. Allen was born in Louisville, KY on January 10, 1948. He was preceded in death by his parents Mac and Dorothy Allen.
Lt. Allen served in Vietnam as a member of the United States Army. Lt. Allen retired in 2001 after 30 years of service with the Buncombe County Sheriff and Asheville Police department. He served under three different Sheriffs in various roles. He was the first Black Lieutenant in the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Barbara Haynes Allen, his brother Anthony Allen, sons Tre Allen, Jeremy Allen and Patrick Haynes (Shonda), his grandchildren Patrick Haynes (PJ), Alexis Allen, Sterling Haynes and Zoe Allen. Nephew Anthony Allen (AJ), Godchildren Hazel Mills, Coquitta Cookie Fleming and Akira Crawling. Special cousins Gene Garrett (Gail), Raymond Garrett (Hope) and Carlos Garrett. Special sister Hattie Dorsey.
A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Willie Allen will be held at Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church (146 Pine St.) on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 1PM. He will lie in state from 12PM until the beginning of service. Interment will be held immediately following service at Shiloh AME Zion Cemetary (95 Shiloh Rd).
