Wanda Louise Redmond, a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and daughter of Samuel and Opal Jones, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center.  She was 70 years old.

Wanda was a graduate of T.C. Roberson High School and then went on to be a Dean’s List and Honors graduate from North Carolina A&T in 1973.  As a student, she was the recipient of a nursing scholarship and named an outstanding senior in nursing.  Her university honors included serving as Basileus of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, member of Alpha Kappa Mu, the Women’s Council, Pan Hellenic Council, Teloca Vice President, Treasure of District 6 of SNANC and circulation manager of the newspaper.

Wanda received her license to practice as a registered nurse in 1974 and immediately set out to helping patients.  For more than 40 years Wanda dedicated her life to caring for others.  She began her career as a nurse at Mission Hospital in the Endoscopy Unit, and in 1996 she transferred to Mountain Area Hospice which at that time, was the second licensed hospice building in NC.  Mountain Area Hospice later became CarePartners Hospice Solace Center and the room 1110 at the John F. Keever Solace Center was dedicated in honor of Wanda and her excellent nursing care.  End of life care was Wanda’s true passion.

After retiring, Wanda would routinely visit patients at Solace every Friday and drop off flowers donated by Gudger’s Flowers.  She also volunteered with Read to Succeed where she advocated for children's literacy.  Along with being a wonderful nurse and colleague, she was the most loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her two sons, Jorge Redmond and his wife Sarah, and Samuel Redmond and his wife Chris; two daughters Angel Redmond and Joy Molling and her husband Ryan; ten grandchildren; Tyler, Amber and Andrew Redmond, Dylan, Noah and Lola Molling, Opal, Stella and Isaiah Redmond, and Eloise Redmond along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She also preceded in death by her brothers, James, Edward and Ernest Hill and her sister Jean Hill.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday at 1pm at Rock Hill Baptist Church, located at 486 Caribou Rd, Asheville NC 28803.  Rev.
