Wanda Lavelle Benjamin

Wanda Lavelle Benjamin “Aunt Wanderful” 66, of Brevard, NC was born April 28, 1958, in Brevard NC to the late Elliot and Esther Benjamin. She transitioned and GOD called her home on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

Wanda was a graduate of Brevard Senior High School. Afterwards she attended Blue Ridge Community College and earned her degree to be a Teacher Assistant. She worked 30 years in the Transylvania County school system. She retired in 2010. After retiring, Wanda worked 5 more years for the Head Start program. She was a member of Bethel A Baptist Church, where she enjoyed participating in the “Golden Circle”. 

She leaves behind to cherish her memory daughters Cindy Benjamin, and Latonya Austin (Charles), grandchildren Delante Benjamin, Nijiyah Cruell, T’siah McClellan, Desmond Cruell and Cinteana Benjamin, 2 great-grandchildren, sisters Cecilia Howell (Late Samuel), Mary Benjamin Arrington (Ernest), and Valarie Benjamin Carmichael (William), brothers Joseph Benjamin (Leslie), and Leslie Benjamin, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Wanda always enjoyed sitting on her porch soaking up the sun while speaking and talking to her neighbors, friends, and family as they drove by. She also enjoyed traveling with her sisters and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren! She had respect and love from her family, friends and people in the community, and she will be missed dearly by many.

A Memorial Service to honor the life of Wanda will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Bethel A Baptist Church (290 Oakdale St., Brevard, NC), at 1pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
