Waleed Hassan Akbar

On Saturday December 21st, Waleed Hassan Akbar age 45 passed away unexpectedly in his residence due to natural causes.

Waleed was born and raised in Asheville, NC. He graduated from Clyde A. Erwin High school in 1998. After graduation, Waleed entered the United States Army where he served overseas in Kosovo. After he left the military, he worked security for several years. Over the past 10 years, Waleed has been working as a produce delivery driver for the Asheville Farmers Market. He loved his job and the people he worked with.

Waleed was most proud of being a father to his two children. They were his pride and joy. Not only did he have such a positive impact on his own children but all the children in his life, including Asia Logan, Chloey Logan, and Jordan Logan who he served as a father figure to for so many years. He also loved his nieces and nephews and was always so proud to celebrate their accomplishments and tell them how proud he was of them. He was someone who was always there for the people he loved. He was a protector and loved with all of his heart. Waleed will truly be missed.

Waleed was a dedicated and loving father, brother, son, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend. He is survived by his two children; Jadrien Akbar (age 7) and Janessa Akbar (age 4) of Asheville; his mother, Nafeesah Howard of Asheville; father, Mubarak Akbar (Sonya) of Morganton; sister, Rashada Crowder (Ben) of Weaverville; brothers; Abdur Akbar (Niroshi) of Rolesville, Naeem Akbar (Kim) of Asheville, Bilal Akbar (Kate) of Asheville; step sisters; Ambrea Williams (Malik) of Morganton, Resay Fetherbay of Morganton, Laquanna Landrum of Hendersonville, Tamika Landrum of Hendersonville, and Shanekqua Landrum of Hendersonville; close friend and roommate, Dran Hines and many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service to celebrate The Mr. Waleed Hassan Akbar will be held on Tuesday, December 31st from 1pm-3pm at Weaverville Community Center, 60 Lakeshore Drive, Weaverville, NC 28787.  Interment will be held at the Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.
