Thomas Lee Harper, Sr. affectionally known as “Tommy” was born in Asheville, North Carolina on December 3, 1935, and transitioned into eternity on April 16, 2022. He was predeceased in death by both parents Snook Harper and Louise Agnew Harper Wilson, spouse Julia “Pee Wee” Harper and sister Luvenia Harper Bowen.
Tommy was educated in the Asheville City Schools system and completed many training courses for Hospitality Management. Throughout his career he was employed by Asheville City Club, Asheville Downtown City Club and retired from the Biltmore Forest Country Club. He thoroughly enjoyed golf outings and excelled in playing Poker while sipping on his favorite beverage. He also enjoyed hanging out with friends as they gathered at their favorite evening hospitality house. Family reunions were an integral part of his life and he loved traveling to Detroit or Washington, DC for these occasions. For more than fifty years he was a staunch member of the Carlton Club and took great joy in their famous New Year’s Eve Formal Dance.
Survivors include daughter, Sherry Harper Oglesby, Charlotte, NC, sons Tony Harper, Charlotte, NC, Terrell Harper (Leslie), Charlotte NC, daughter Terry Lynn Byrd, Asheville, NC, sister Mildred Davis, Detroit Michigan, brothers Kenneth Wilson, Jacksonville, Florida, Carlton Wilson, South Field, Michigan, Stephen Wilson, Snellville Georgia, second spouse Rose Harper, Charlotte, NC, Aunt Pauline Agnew Carter, Washington, DC, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, special sister in-law Gloria Harper Gilliam (Lonnie) along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
THROUGH DEATH TO ETERNAL LIFE
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Mr. Thomas Lee Harper Sr., will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 23rd at Hill Street Baptist Church located at 135 Hill Street in Asheville. Viewing will be held on Friday, April 22nd at Avery’s Memorial Chapel, 12:00pm – 7:00pm.
