Shelia A. (Mills) Hazel

Shelia Hazel of Asheville, NC transitioned to Heaven on Thursday, March 2, 2023. She was born March 28, 1963 in Asheville, NC. She was the daughter of the late Rudolph Mills and Cathleen (Carol) Allen Mills.

Shelia attended Asheville City Schools and was a graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School. She then furthered her journey as a Banquet Supervisor at the Omni Grove Park Inn where she dedicated 28 years and retired.

Shelia had a heart of gold and loved to cook for her family and friends. She knew how to make the perfect meal without needing a measuring cup. After retiring, she spent most of her time with her kids that she adored more than anything and her grandkids. She always knew how to make visits to “Nanny” house memorable. Whether it was making Adonis infamous pancake & eggs or Amya’s homemade double chocolate cake. She knew how to make everyone feel like they were her favorite. To know Shelia, you knew she was going to tell you straight up what she thought and exactly how it is. She often came with a mighty punch but you always knew it was with a sincere heart. She will truly be missed by everyone.

Left to cherish her wonderful memories, her son Corie Hazel (Brooke Hazel) of Arden, NC, Her daughter Jessica Johnson (Dr. Randall Johnson) of Asheville, NC, Brothers Terry Mills (Neecie Thomas) of Asheville, NC, Gary Mills (Samantha Mills) of Arden, NC, her only sister Vicki Hemphill of Charlotte, NC, her grandkids Amya Johnson, Adonis Johnson & Tyriq Bowans of Asheville, NC, her niece Porchea Mills (DeVon Mills).

A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Ms. Shelia Hazel will be held at St. John Baptist Church (14 Legend Dr. Arden, NC 28704) on Friday March 10, 2023, at 1pm.
