Sarah Dixon, 61, was born on July 4th, 1964, to Mr. Dandy Dixon and Ms. Marian Chambers in Asheville, NC. She departed this earthly life and went to her Heavenly home, surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, January 30th, 2026. She was the youngest of the Dixon family and was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James Larry Williams; and her sisters Dandy Mae King and Marilyn Griffin.
Sarah just didn’t walk through life–she danced through it. Sarah was 61 years young, and while her journey wasn’t always easy, it was always beautiful. To know Sarah was to know a fighter. For many years, she lived with sickle cell disease. She did not let that define her or dampen her spirit. She carried her cross with a level of positivity that felt like sunshine on a cloudy day. She proved that while your body might have limitations, your spirit can be limitless.
Her home was never just a house–it was a harbor. She was known for taking people in, providing care, and a place to rest for anyone who needed it. Sarah’s strength didn’t come from thin air; it came from her deep, abiding faith in God. She trusted Him with her life, her health, and every member of her family. Sarah was the anchor for her family. She was a prayer warrior in the truest sense. Any member of her family was covered and had a direct line to Heaven through her prayers.
To her daughters, granddaughters, nieces and nephews: you were her pride and joy. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience. She taught you how to stand tall when things get tough and how to keep a sweet demeanor even when the world is bitter. Most of all, she taught us to find the music. Sarah loved music and she loved to dance. Let us think of that right now, free from the pain of sickness and the weariness of hard work, Sarah is finally dancing on the streets of gold–no longer fighting, just rejoicing.
We will miss her wit, her humor, and that sweet spirit. But we carry her forward by being a little more generous, a little more prayerful, and by remembering to dance, even when the music is soft. Rest well, Sarah. Your work is done, and your harvest of love is great.
She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a member of Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church and served the Church in many ways.
Sarah will be deeply missed by her daughters; Nikkea and Lateisha Dixon; her granddaughters; Precious, Rashida, Nevaeh, and Zaina Dixon; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Sarah will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church (100 Carroll Ave.), at 12pm. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the service at Sunset Cemetery. Viewing will be held at Avery's Memorial Chapel on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 12pm – 7pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
