Ruth Montgomery Obituary

In Loving Memory of Mrs. Ruth Virginia Littlejohn Montgomery

A Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Aunt

Ruth Virginia Littlejohn Montgomery started her life’s journey on September 29, 1925. She was born in Henderson County, North Carolina to the late Richard Littlejohn and Odie Mills Littlejohn, and was the fifth sibling in her family. She got her wings on Wednesday May 12, 2020 in the am and met her Heavenly Father with joy and thanksgiving. She was finally “Home”.  She met and married her soul mate John Lee Montgomery on February 20, 1945 and to this union had four children, and with loving kindness and care one niece.  After 63 wonderful and loving years of marriage, John went home to be with our Heavenly Father in 2008.

Ruth began her journey with God at an early age under her loving mother Odie Littlejohn, at Blue Ridge Baptist Church in Edneyville, NC. She continued serving at Blue Ridge Baptist Church under numerous ministers, one of which was her beloved cousin Pastor Edgar Lee Waters. Her present pastor is the Rev. Richard T. Pea along with his wife Sister Lisa. They continued their ministering to her in the hospital and nursing home with their visits, prayers and communion. She served as a Sunday School teacher, sang on the adult choir and worked in the fellowship hall during her younger years. In her many visits throughout her years at other churches both in Henderson and Buncombe counties, she never failed to give her testimony and witnessing about her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and ended with her well known handshake.

She began her employment with the Arthur Turner Family, who owned and operated the General Store in Edneyville. She cared for Arthur and Jeanette and their four children Tommy, Ann, Katie, and Susan, of whom she was a caring mother and role model. Ruth was a “no nonsense” person and did not tolerate misbehavior. She continued her employment with the Hosiery Plant for several years and she was also employed with Taylor Instrument in Arden where she retired.

Ruth loved her family and friends very much. She’s known as MOTHER, MOMA, MAW MAW, MS. MONTGOMERY, SISTER MONTGOMERY, MRS. RUTH, AND AUNT RUTH. Unknown to most with the exception of her family, Ruth was lovingly called “Peckey” by her father.

Ruth loves her Heavenly Father and He is the author and finisher of her faith. She lived to be a witness for Him and give her testimony for the Goodness and Grace and Mercy of God for as long as she lived.... and she did.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Marvin (Toss), James (Bookie), Hugh Mack (John), and Holsey, sisters Francis, Beulah, Emma, and Novella.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters Deborah Gilliand (Larry), Lisa Tucker (Charles), and her niece Carolyn Allen Fullwood, son Kim Montgomery (Martha), sister Nancy McKenzie, grandchildren Derek Allen (Tonia), Brian Gilliand, Joshua Tucker (LaShonda), Monica Gilliand, Natasha Tucker, and Kim Lee Montgomery Jr. (Simone), 17 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Viewing for Mrs. Ruth V. Montgomery will be held Wednesday May 20th at 10am - 6pm. She will be laid to rest during a private family service.
