Ruby Iola Maybin

Ruby Iola Bruton Maybin was born June 27, 1931 to Mary Bruton (deceased) and Reverend T.R. Hanner (deceased). She gained her wings on February 13, 2023.  Ruby was baptized at the early age of 9 years old at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Greer, South Carolina, by the Reverend W. A. Anderson. She retired from Biltmore Dairy as a culinary cook and shared her cooking skills throughout the community feeding many friends and family. Her nickname was known by many people as “Gypsy Wolf” because of her undeniable beauty and witty outgoing personality. 

She was united in holy matrimony to Clarence Maybin (deceased). She leaves to cherish her sweet memories: four sons Michael (Charlotte - deceased) Maybin, Doug (Spring) Maybin, Albert (Janice) Maybin, Rudy (Renee) Maybin.

Ruby has four brothers: Claude Bruton (deceased), John Lee Bruton (deceased), Christopher (Chris) Bruton(deceased) and Raymond Hanner.

She has three sisters:  Mary Louise Ledlow (deceased), Vanessa Hanner Wells, and Mary Louise Montgomery (deceased).

Ruby has seven grandkids (Mike Maybin - deceased), Marques Maybin, Javon (Shayla) Broadwater, Sean Maybin, Aleandra Clarese Sanna, Cameron Maybin (Courtney), Camille (Artis) Maybin.

She has twelve great grandchildren Jalen Reeves (Alexis) Maybin, Jazmine Broadwater, Jayla Broadwater, Tylas Maybin, Trent Maybin, Max Maybin and Laila Maybin. Ava and Artis Gilmore.   and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.

She was the oldest living member of Eastern Stars #330 for 27 years which made her a Senior Delight.

The family would like to thank Melanie Dionne Allen for being such a dedicated, compassionate caregiver for 6 years and was always there when we needed her.  We would like to also thank all caregivers involved that were instrumental in her care. Also, thank you to all the doctors at WNC Baptist Home and Four Seasons Hospice Care where she rested comfortably throughout her final days.

She will be greatly missed by many and never forgotten.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Ms. Ruby Maybin will be held at Nazareth First Baptist Church, (146 Pine St. Asheville NC 28801), on Wednesday February 22, 2023, at 1pm. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the funeral at Violet Hill Cemetery. Viewing for Ms. Maybin will be held Tuesday February 21, 2023, from 12pm until 7pm at World Wide Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church (85 Choctaw St. Asheville, NC 28801).
