A Husband, a Father, a Grandfather, and a Man of God, Robert Jackson Sr. affectionately known as “Pluto" and “Jack," 90, passed away Saturday morning, October 25, 2025 to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born May 10, 1935 to the late James and Lila Jackson in Asheville, NC. He graduated from Stephens Lee High School in 1953. He married his High School sweetheart, Ida Mae Jeter, and to this union four children were born. He retired as Supervisor from Vanderbilt Shirt Company with over 40 years of service and from Buncombe County Federal Building with 50 years of service. He was a dedicated member of Hill Street Baptist Church for over 25 years. He was a former Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent of Sunday School, and a member of the Choir. He then became a member of Brown Temple CME Church where he served until his health declined. He was a member of the Men’s Choir, consistently visited the sick and shut in members, and faithfully served wherever he was needed.
He was a quiet spoken man, a great listener, and an encourager to people of all walks of life. He will be remembered as a Man of God with a beautiful tenor voice and a teacher of the Word of God in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, his father, James Jackson, Sr., mother, Lila Jackson, brother, James Jackson, Jr., and daughter, Felecia Jackson. Left to cherish his memories are his children: three daughters Deborah Roseboro (Clevell), Sondra Conley (Keith), Diedra Harris (known as Mickey), and a bonus daughter Beverly Fair; one son, Robert Jackson Jr.; 11 grandchildren, Rachel, Kenyatta, Trae, Maurice II, Darius, Marcus, Arielle, Nakia, Shonda, Allen, and Ariana; 11 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Elaine Wilson of Morganton NC; close family Greg McElroy, and a host of other family and friends.
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Robert will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Brown Temple CME Church (32 Phifer St.), at 12pm. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Lewis Memorial Park (415 Beaverdam Rd), at 11am. Viewing will be held at Avery’s Memorial Chapel on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 12pm – 7pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
