Riley Perkins Obituary

Riley Causey Perkins, affectionately known as "Pops," age 77, of Black Mountain, NC, was called to his eternal rest on February 11, 2024. Born on September 23, 1946, in Quincy, FL, he was a son of the late Guy Perkins and Mattie Causey Perkins.

A man of great integrity and fortitude, Pops is lovingly remembered by his family, including his daughter, Paula James (husband Larry) of Black Mountain, NC Granddaughter, Iris Jones (husband Wally), and his treasured Great-Grandchildren: Gabriel, Hannah, and Matthias (Matty) of Bermuda Run, NC. His memory is cherished by his siblings: brothers David Perkins of Venice, FL, Alan Perkins of Tallahassee, FL, Irvin Perkins of Havana, FL, and sister Dianne Perkins Maxwell of Havana, FL, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Ann Miller Perkins, his son Patrick Sheldon Perkins, and other dear family members.

Pops's upbringing in Havana High School laid the foundation for his commendable service in the US Army, where he served with honor in the 199th Light Infantry Brigade during the Vietnam War. His vocational life was spent mastering the trades of carpentry and CNC machining, where his skilled hands brought forth both form and function.

A steadfast member of The Church at Asheville, Pops's faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and interactions with gentle strength and profound respect.

An artisan in his own right, Pops found joy in woodworking, creating items of both beauty and utility, from birdhouses to furniture, each piece a reflection of his dedication to his craft.
