Rev. Teresa Ann Kelly (Pete) was born January 30th, 1955, to the late Doris and Kenneth Corpening in Old Fort, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Kelly. Her brothers Allen, James Edward, and Kenneth Corpening Jr.
Rev. Kelly attended Elementary and High School in Old Fort, NC. She earned her Associated Degree in Applied Science, Western Piedmont Community College, Morganton, NC. Bachelor of Science Degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling and her Master of Divinity Degree from Gardner-Webb University, Boiling Spring, NC.
Her employment career included working for Octopus Garden, Davidson Family Services, and a driver for Manna Food Bank. As the change in life came about, she found a renewed love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was, licensed and ordained to Preach, His Gospel. She was a founding member of the online Mentoring program for young Ministers called “Iron Sharpening Iron” which covers nine states. She was a part of the Baptist Ministers Union, where she served as the Secretary.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children Patrick Wallace (Richard), Columbia, SC. Carla Wallace of the home, Terrance Wallace (Melissa), Marion, NC. Her siblings, Wilma Lytle of Black Mountain, NC. Paul Corpening (Sherry), Columbia, Mo., and William Corpening (Laverne), Marion, NC. Pam Corpening, Marion, NC and a Bonus Sister, Minnie Rutherfordton, Nebo, NC. Grandchildren: Gennea, Anontai, Malcolm, Jy’Kiri, Serenity, Kane, Hannah, Jayme, and Dakota. Her great grandson, Brian Jr. Her Bonus son, Christopher Peynado and her children’s father Perry Wallace, Glen Alpine. She was blessed to have a host of nieces and nephews.
Rev. Kelly enjoyed playing golf, watching the Hallmark series “When Calls the Heart” and she loved, as she called him, Mahommes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Mrs. Teresa Kelly will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Mills Chapel Baptist Church (328 Cragmont Road, Black Mountain, NC) at 1pm. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow at Mills Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing will be on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 3pm to 7pm at Avery's Memorial Chapel. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
