Pearlie Dixon Obituary

Pearlie May Dixon was born May 4, 1923, in Lockhart Texas to the late Jim Spruiells and Cordia Ellison Spruiells. At the age of 100 she transitioned from this earthly life into eternal life on Sunday March 3rd, 2024, at Givens Estate Health Center.

Pearlie May received her education in Tillman, Texas. She was a member of Hill Street Baptist Church (HSBC), of which she was a very active member of the Keen Agers Ministry (Senior Citizen Club of HSBC), and a member of the East Circle of HSBC. She also was a member of The Eastern Stars since 1951, where she received several awards and traveled to many states with The Eastern Stars organization. She was dedicated and involved with her community at Burton Street Recreation Center. She enjoyed sewing and was a seamstress for 71 years. Pearlie May also enjoyed baking cakes for her community and helping with any assistance needed in the community’s beauty shop for 15 years.

Pearlie May was employed at Saint Joseph Hospital for 25 years. She was a foster Mother for several individuals who struggled with troubled lives, but most of her regulars turned their lives around and became successful, often visiting her.

Pearlie May was preceded in death by her devoted and loving parents, loving husband Ernest E. Dixon (North Carolina), her only loving sister Verdia Mae Davis (Washington, D.C.), and two loving nieces: Delores Faye Dowd and Vernell Marie Davis (Washington, D.C.); and her special close and truly good friends: Lawrence Peterson (North Carolina), Alex Hicks (South Carolina).

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her devoted and loving niece: Shirley Davis Olhaye (Washington, D.C.); two nephews: John T. Davis Jr. and Anthony Ray Davis (Washington, D.C.); great-nieces: Tonja, Tammi, Naja and Sherri; great-nephews: Theodore ‘Ted’, Michael, Terrance, John-John and Antoine; 14 great-great nieces and nephews; 9 great great-great nieces and nephews, and a host of other loving family, friends.

Pearlie May also raised and cared for J’La Hicks from the mere age of 5 to adulthood, who affectionally called Pearlie May, Granny.

A Memorial Service to honor the life of Pearlie May Dixon will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the Hill Street Church (135 Hill St.) at 4pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
