Pablo Antonio Rancier, a devoted husband, loving father, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully at the age of 89. Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to Pablo Ramon Rancier and Maria Amparo Saillant, he immigrated to New York City, arriving at Ellis Island in 1944, where he embraced new opportunities with determination and faith.
After arriving in the U.S., he attended St. Patrick Military Academy, Don Bosco High School, and a year at CCNY, where he developed lifelong discipline and leadership skills. In 1955, at age 18 Pablo became a U.S. citizen—a moment he cherished deeply, and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving honorably for four years as a jet engine mechanic. The Airman 2nd Class subsequently served in the Air Force Reserves until 1963. His service reflected Pablo’s strong work ethic and dedication to his adopted country. After a four-year courtship, Pablo married the love of his life, Sally Cordero De Jesus in 1958 and together they had three beautiful children.
In 1972, Pablo and Sally left New York and settled in Asheville, North Carolina, where they built a beautiful life together. A man of many talents, he worked various jobs throughout his career, before retiring from the DoubleTree Hotel in Biltmore Village in 2012. There, his warm smile and welcoming presence made him a favorite among guests and coworkers alike.
A devout Catholic, Pablo was a faithful parishioner of St. Lawrence Basilica, where he found strength in his faith. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Sally; his children, Sara Rancier deLeon, Paul (PJ) Rancier, and Phillip Rancier; his ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pablo will be remembered for his kindness, his strong moral compass, and his unwavering love for his family. His legacy of hard work, faith, and devotion will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate the life of Pablo will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at St. Eugene’s Catholic Church (72 Culvern St.), at 2pm.
