Olivia “Libby” Leverette-Gash of Asheville went home to be with the Lord February 20, 2022. Ms. Gash was born in Canton, NC on March 20,1960 to the late Barbara and Clarence Leverette. She was a graduate of Asheville High School Class of 1978.
She had several careers over her lifetime. She was the first black meter maid for the City of Asheville. She also was a customer service rep for AT&T. She retired from Asheville Savings Bank. She was a manager at Target. Her main love was working with kids, including her most recent work with the Caiyalynn Burrell Child Crisis Center.
Ms. Gash loved Jesus, her family and friends. She was best known for her bright, loving and sweet personality. She never met a stranger. She was a devoted member of Brown Temple CME Church. Her services to Jesus Christ included being a Trustee, Missionary, and member of the Leverette African Choir. Also, she and her sister Vicki served as the Welcome Committee reading the church announcements and welcoming visitors for over 15 years.
She is preceded in death by her brothers Frederick Leverette and Gerald Bryson.
She is survived by her two sons Richard “PeeWee” Gash (Shyra) of Portland, Oregon, Devon “Stuff” Gash of Asheville, NC., grandchildren; Myra Strickland, Isaiah and Elijah Gash, Keith Green, Kori Trantham, Mattie Gash, sisters; Vicki L. Goggans, Denise L. Vinson of Asheville, special friend Arthur Gilliam, best friends; Bobby Alexander, Bishop Carolyn Briggs and Louise Ray, and a host of other family and friends.
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Mrs. Olivia "Libby" Leverette-Gash will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 1:00pm at Brown Temple CME Church located at 32 Phifer Street in Asheville. The family will receive friends at Brown Temple CME one hour prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow the service at Violet Hill Cemetery.
