Norman McGahee Obituary

Norman Jerome McGahee of Swannanoa, NC, made his transition on September 27, 2024. He was born October 3, 1950, to the late Willie Lee McGahee and the late Beatrice Margaret Peterson McGahee.

Norman was enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served on the USS John F. Kennedy until his honorable discharge. He served in the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. In addition to his high school education, he was militarily educated and trained in Damage Control Shipboard, Fire Fighting Shipboard, and other certifications. Norman was the owner of NJM Tile & Tile by Norman, specializing in tiling and grout work. His work ranged from residential to commercial flooring. He also worked as the maintenance supervisor at The Vanderbilt Apartments, where he officially retired in 2017. He was naturally gifted with flooring, woodwork, art, and music skills. He had an extensive music collection from albums to CDs of all genres. He was a tried-and-true music lover and Carolina Panthers fan. He was also known for his creatively inspired food dishes. “Norm” as he was often called also cared for his mother until his decline in health and dementia diagnosis. Norman achieved many accomplishments, but the one he was most proud of was being a dad. He was preceded in death by his son Norman J. McGahee, Jr.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Kanita M. McGahee and Shanee Cullins, sons Rashaad J. McGahee, Sr., (Kevina) and Amaand A. McGahee, siblings Jacqueline McGahee, Alvin McGahee (Barbara), Travis McGahee, Vernon McGahee (Tunga) and Velma Hamilton (Cletus), 6 Grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
