Nellie Ruth Williams was born January 5,1948, in Asheville, and departed this life on September 16, 2022.

She was the daughter of the late Anna Collins and the late Ben F. Byrd, and was one of four children.

Nellie was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and a member of the city-wide usher board. After 15 years of dedicated service, she retired from Mission hospital.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Pamela Williams and granddaughter Lashandra Williams.

Her laughter and love will be remembered by those left to cherish her memories. She is survived by her children Cassandra Byrd, Patricia Harris (Tony), and Patrice Byrd, brother Benny Byrd (Luella), sister Betty Wells, brother Samuel Lynch, eighteen grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren, companion for many years Johnson Galloway, a number of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

A Funeral Service to honor the life of Ms. Nellie Williams will be held at Pine Grove Baptist Church (11 Pine Grove Ave.) on Saturday, September 24th at 1pm. She will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral. Viewing will be held Friday from 1pm till 7pm at Avery's Memorial Chapel. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
