Monte Dupree Williams, Sr. of Asheville departed this life on November 7, 2020 after an extended illness. A resident of The Oaks Nursing Home, he was the son of the late John Williams and Clara Bowditch Williams. Monte was employed by Gerber Foods for over 20 years and was also on the Gerber Softball and Bowling Teams. He graduated from Asheville High School in 1974, and attended NC Central University and Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.
Monte was also one of seven brothers.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, John Williams (Viola), Maurice Williams, and Larry Williams, and granddaughter Jamie Trice.
Monte is survived by his children Devonna Williams, (Everette Moreland) of Arden NC, Vaniece Honeycutt (Nicholas) of Monroe NC, Monte Williams, Jr.(Elizabeth Baxter) of Charlotte NC, and Aston Trice (Leon) of Boiling Springs SC, grandchildren Erianna Moreland, Jayden Honeycutt, Leon Trice, Jr., and Alanna Trice, brothers Sherman Williams (Kimberly), Mark Williams (Diane) and Spencer Williams all of Asheville.
A Memorial Service honoring the life of Mr. Monte Williams will be held at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13th. The Memorial Service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
