Michael "Scoop" Davis of Asheville NC, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2022. He was born on July 13, 1956, to the late Anna K. Smith Davis, and the late Willie Ginyard, Jr.
Scoop loved spending time with his family, dancing to music, and fishing. Michael was a great uncle who loved children, and was a wonderful stand in Pa Pa for his significant others' grandchildren. He would frequently be seen walking them to the bus, and would be there to pick them up when the bus returned later that afternoon. He was the best dresser in the family, and he was taught by his mother how to cook while gaining instructions over the phone. His nickname was "Scoop" because he always knew what was going on in West Asheville. If you wanted to know the Scoop, just ask Michael. He graduated from Asheville High School in 1974, and was a Veteran of the US Army of which he served honorably for four years. Michael was employed at Jackson Western store for many years, and was well known to absolutely LOVE the Pittsburgh Steelers. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Walter Davis and Gregory Davis, daughter Lunndonne Davis, and stepdad Eddie Smith.
Michael is survived by his sister Deborah Bryant (Edgar) of Asheville, brothers Alvin "Kenny" Davis (Jacqueline) of Georgia, Quintin Davis of Asheville, and Darrell Davis (Gwen) of Charlotte, his significant other Ms. Vicky Mills, stepsister Janice Martin, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many other friends.
Funeral Services to honor the life of Mr. Michael Davis will be held on Friday June 3rd at Nazareth First Missionary Baptist Church (146 Pine St., Asheville, NC) at 11am. He will be buried at 2pm in the Western Carolina Veteran Cemetery in Black Mountain after the funeral. Viewing will be held on Thursday June 2nd at Avery's Memorial Chapel from 12pm - 7pm.
