Melody "Ms. Maine" Germaine Porter

Ms. Melody "Maine" Germaine Porter went to be with our LORD on Sunday, February 25, 2024. Melody was born in Asheville on August 6, 1967. She was preceded in death by her mother Shirley Porter, and her father Harold Bowens.

Melody attended Clyde A. Erwin high school. Melody resided in Deaverview (D-Block), born and raised. She was a member of New Vision Baptist church. Melody worked as a cook at J&S Cafeteria, and a laundry attendant at Motel 6. She had a voice which was one of a kind, and she loved to sing loud and proud (Betty Wright). To know Melody was to love her. She had the biggest heart but would tell you about yourself at the same time. Melody Porter aka Ms. Maine will be cherished loved and truly missed.

Left to cherish Melody's memory are her three daughters, Sheminiqua Johnson (Ricky), Chanara Porter, and Roshana Mcknight, grandchildren Jah'Baree Tolbert , Jah'Pryee Tolbert, Iy'Lajah Tolbert, Naomi Patton, Karleigh Patton, Zolei Burgin, and Niviah Mcknight all of Asheville, sisters Candi Porter, Laura Oliver (Anthony) of Greenville, SC, Angela Hector of Hickory NC, and Kisha Benford of Orrville, brothers Franklin Porter (Tangela), Kareem Porter,  and Dennis O'Neal of Piedmont, SC. Her memory will also be cherished by many special Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service to honor the life of Maine will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at St. James AME Church (44 Hildebrand St.) at 3pm. She will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral. Viewing will be held at Avery's Memorial Chapel on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 12pm - 7pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
