Marion Scott Junior entered into eternal rest on February 15, 2023. He was born in Waynesboro, Georgia to the late Marion Scott Sr. and the late Nora Bell Scott on August 10, 1939.
Marion, affectionately known as Scotty, grew up on a farm with his parents and eleven siblings. Shortly after graduating high school, he relocated to Norwalk, Connecticut where he met and raised a family with his wife of over 60 years, Thelma. In Norwalk, he joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church and dedicated his life to being a servant of the Lord. He was extremely devoted to his faith and became a deacon of the church in 1977.
Scotty had a very outgoing personality and made a friend wherever he went. He loved to be social and joined the fraternity Knights of Pythias Twin City #11 Chapter. In addition to his love for God and his family, some of his favorite pastimes included traveling, especially cruising, fishing, reading and singing.
Scotty was an extremely hardworking man that earned countless awards and promotions. After giving Plastic Products and later Cablevision a combined 35 years of service in Connecticut, he retired to Asheville, NC. Though retired, Scotty with his need to work and be social volunteered for the Western Asheville Center for Advanced Living for more than 5 years. He also became a faithful member of St. John “A” Baptist Church. St. John “A” Baptist became a second family to Scotty. Here, in addition to his continued his deaconship, he served various roles in the church including being a Sunday school teacher and, of course, a member of the choir.
His beautiful life will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Thelma; three sons, Michael (Janice), Eric, and Brian (Michelle); five grandchildren, Dawshae, Jamaal, Taren, Brianna, and Lyla Grace; three precious great-grandchildren, Jakai, Naiomi, and Tatum; sisters, Wilhelmenia Jones, Willie Bell Davis, Pearlie Scott, Annie Jenkins, and Jeannie (Gaetonio) Sanford; brothers, Sidney and Robert (Delphine) Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends. He was predeceased by brothers Henry, Cleveland, and Walter and sister Laura Bell.
A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Marion Scott, Jr. will be held at St. John A (20 Dalton St.) on Saturday March 11, 2023, at 2pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
