Marcia Mack Obituary

Marcia Gardenhight-Mack was born on May 10, 1937, in Asheville, North Carolina, to the late Ed and Fannie Williams Gardenhight. She grew up in Asheville, where she attended Stephen’s Lee High School.After graduation, Marcia moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in pursuit of new opportunities and a brighter future. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, the late Leonard Mack. Together, they shared many wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and dedication to family and faith.

 

Marcia was a hard-working and kind-hearted woman. She served as a supervisor at Petrie’s Department Store in Toledo, Ohio, where she was admired for her leadership, professionalism, and kindness toward coworkers and customers alike. Her strong work ethic and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she knew.

 

Beyond her career, Marcia was known for her gentle heart, deep faith, and unwavering devotion to her family. She enjoyed spending time with loved ones, cooking delicious meals, sharing stories that reflected her warmth and wisdom, and lighting up a room with her beautiful smile. Her nurturing soul made everyone feel cared for and loved.

 

Marcia leaves to cherish her memory her nephew, Lenon Smith; her beloved nieces, Dorothy (Jenelle) Walker, Edna Roberts, Ava Roberts, and Fannita Roberts; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews,  and  stepdaughter's Vada Mack, Marsha Mack- Jackson and Patrice Mack who will always remember her with love and gratitude. She is also survived by her devoted and loving niece, Rolanda Roberts, who faithfully cared for her over the past three years, bringing great comfort to Marcia in her later years. Cherished cousins and many special friends who were like family — individuals who shared her life, supported her, and brightened her days. Proceeded her in death is her brother Billy Gardenhight, sister Ava Smith, Marian Beverly and Elizabeth Williams.

 

Marcia will be remembered as a loving wife, caring aunt, faithful friend, and a woman whose life reflected grace, strength, and kindness. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

 

A Funeral Service to honor the life of Marcia will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at St. James AME Church (44 Hildebrand St), at 12pm. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Violet Hill Cemetery immediately following the funeral. Viewing will be held at Avery's Memorial Chapel on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 12pm - 7pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
