Luana Celeste Green

Luana Green went home to be with our LORD on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

On August 4, 1959, James and Helene Green welcomed their second child, Luana Celeste into the world. Luana has always had an unwavering love for family, friends, and community. No mile has ever been too long or ask too big.

Luana began her education at Shiloh Elementary and remained until the school closed in 1969. She finished elementary school at Biltmore and graduated from TC Roberson High School in 1977. She immediately entered North Carolina Central University (NCCU).

In her professional career Luana was blessed to be employed by the NC State Department of Corrections and served as the Assistant Director of Environmental Services at Givens Estates up to her passing.

Luana accepted Christ at a young age and is a lifelong member of Hopkins Chapel AME Zion Church where she served on the Board of Trustees.

In her spare time Luana enjoyed exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway and vacationing on the Outer Banks. Her photogenic eye has captured breathtaking images of nature along the way. She also enjoyed cheering for ALL Duke Men’s Basketball teams, the University of South Carolina Lady Gamecocks and the ladies of the WNBA.

Left to cherish her memory is her brother Reggie, sister Jennifer, nieces Alyeh and Ashlie, nephew Christopher and her beloved pet Fuji. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Helene Green.

A Funeral Service to honor the life of Luana will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Hopkins Chapel AME Zion Church (21 College Pl), at 2pm. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Viewing will be held at Avery's Memorial Chapel on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 1pm - 7pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
