Laura Davis Penland

Mrs. Laura Davis Penland (“P”) 83, died peacefully on June 28, 2019 at Care Partners Hospice in Asheville. Mrs. Penland was born September 2, 1935, in Newberry, South Carolina to Aaron and Geneva Davis.

She worked for 50 years as a childcare worker at Hill Street Baptist Church Day Care Center. Mrs. Penland LOVED working with children. She had a giving heart and never met a stranger. She was a pleasure to be around and her smile would light up a room. 
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Leonard Penland Sr., son Herman Leonard Penland Jr., and sister-in-law Josephine (Jo) Davis.
 
Mrs. Penland is survived by her children Richard Penland of Burlington, NC, Bernice McMillan of Asheville, brother Aaron Davis Jr., grandchildren Lesley Penland and Bruce McMillan, 5 greatgrandchildren, special friends; Willie Mae Black, Fay Hill, Gail Petty, Elijah Davis and many other family and friends.
 
Funeral  services for Mrs. Penland will be held Friday July 5th at 11:00 am at Hill Street Baptist Church located at 135 Hill Street. Viewing will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the funeral at Violet Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1 Shady Circle Apt. 5-F after 5:00 pm.
