On Sunday, September 3, 2023 God sent his angels to guide Justin Eugene Battle, age 34, to his heavenly home. No more pain, no more sickness.......He is free!

Justin was born May 23, 1989 to Susan Gorstema and Vernon Durrah, Sr. in Asheville. He was legally adopted at the age of 6 by Minister Kenneth A. Battle, where he grew up in Raleigh, NC. Justin proudly served his country in the US Army from 2009, until he was honorably discharged in 2013.

He was always identified by his deep voice and loving characteristics. Justin was known to all his family and friends as "JAY," and was an outgoing, bubbly, and energetic young man. His favorite activity was helping and serving others. He dreamed of being dedicated police officer and was taking the necessary steps to achieve that goal. Justin was very intelligent, funny, and kind to everyone he came in contact with. When not doing his security/law enforcement things, Justin could be found alongside his family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his dad Minister Kenneth A. Battle (Raleigh, NC), his grandmother Irene Battle, brothers Mystic Wainwright, Kenneth A. Battle, III, Donald Howze,Lamonte Cook, Vernon Patterson, Keith Hopper, Maleke Durrah, and Tyleke Durrah, his beloved sisters Ernestine Hinton, Bianca Davidson, Tamika Patterson, Tasha Patterson, Jasmine Jackson, and Lashonda Green, uncles Bobby Battle and Anthony Durrah, aunts Carol Blake and Adena Twitty, his biological parents Susan Gorstema and Vernon Durrah, Sr., and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Memorial Service to honor the life of Justin Battle will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Worldwide Missionary Baptist Church (85 Choctaw Street), at 1pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
