Jonathan (Jon) Samuel Payton, 61, of 42 Huntington St., went to be with the Lord on November 2, 2023, at Care Partners Solace Hospice. A resident of Asheville, he was born May 29, 1962. Jonathan completed his studies at AB-Tech Community College in July of 1985.
Jon enjoyed watching his favorite teams, the Denver Broncos and the LA Lakers. He had a love for antique classic vehicles, and his last antique vehicle was a 1986 Chevy Blazer. He enjoyed playing cards with his mom and making people laugh. Jon was a man with many faults, yet he was on a steady path to becoming a better man. His aim was to heal the tears he felt he placed in his mother’s heart.
The late Frances Robinson of Brevard, NC, had a huge impact on Jon’s Life. Mark and Kat Baker of Eclectic, AL (Frances’s Son-Law and Daughter), was part of Jon’s Extended family.
In addition to his father Charles E. Payton Sr., Jon is preceded in death by his brother Andre Eugene Payton. Left to cherish his memories are his mother Alice Louise Perry Payton, brothers Clarence Payton, Allen Payton (Sheena), Charles E. Payton, Jr. (Karen), and Charles Ray Payton, (Cindy) all of Asheville, sisters Sandra Jennings and Melody Millsaps both of Asheville, and Violetha Littlejohn (Billy) of Brevard, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and many friends. Jon will be truly missed by all that knew him.
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Jonathan will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, at New Bethel Baptist Church (500 S. French Broad Ave.) at 12pm. He will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral. Viewing will be held Thursday November 9, 2023, from 1pm to 7pm at Avery's Memorial Chapel.
