Jarae "Tunka" Maran Millsaps

Jarae “Tunka” Maran Millsaps, age 33, of Lenoir, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 12, 2023, in Asheville. He was born September 26, 1989, in Caldwell County to Rev. James E. Millsaps and Constance “Adoree” Ervin Millsaps. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Gary Henry Norwood.

Jarae was a Christian and was raised by his parents in a Christian home. He loved playing the drums and singing in church. He was a graduate of Hibriten High School, class of 2007 where he played football. He was employed by the City of Asheville Parks and Recreation Department, was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, and had a passion for dogs. Jarae loved his family, his children, and friends. He would do anything for anyone and will be missed by all.

Survivors include his parents, Rev. James E. MIllsaps and Constance “Adoree” Ervin Millsaps of Lenoir; children, Jordan Debro, Addison Jade Millsaps, and Little James Jarae Millsaps of Morganton; wife, Taylor Paige Millsaps of Morganton; siblings, Mitchell DeHaven Millsaps and Jamila Jeanette Millsaps both of Lenoir; maternal grandmother, Jeanette E. Norwood of Lenoir; paternal grandparents, Rev. James R. Millsaps and Rachel Parsons Millsaps of Taylorsville; paternal grandfather, Leroy Glass of Morganton; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
 

A Celebration of Life will be held for Jarae on Sunday, August 27th, 2023, at 3:00 PM with Rev. James Wilfong officiating at Highways to Hedges Ministries, 1002 Main Street, Lenoir. The family will speak to friends following the service and are receiving friends at the home of his parents, 2633 Wilkesboro Blvd, Lenoir.
