Jamila Joi Johnson, born August 26, 2022, at 12:49pm, met the eyes of JESUS on August 28, 2022, at 3:45am.
Jamila Joi is the daughter of Terrell and Jameka Johnson, of Asheville. She is the answered prayer to their missing puzzle piece, and they waited for her birth with joyful expectation. She had many physical characteristics of her father with his eyebrows and hands and feet along with her mother’s nose. She enjoyed putting her hand on her chin, kicking to the sound of her mother’s voice and showing her strength by lifting her father’s fingers.
Jamila was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandfathers James “Butch” Horton and Joe Webster, and her maternal great-grandfathers Willie Bowman, II, of Chicago and James “LC” Magee of Mississippi.
She is survived by maternal great-grandmothers Carrie Lou Magee of Mississippi and Gay Bowman of Louisiana, and paternal great-grandmothers Jane Webster and Willie Mae Cherry Johnson of North Carolina, her paternal grandparents Keith Johnson of North Carolina, LaShawn and James Sullivan of Kentucky and maternal grandparents Johnnie Sherryl and Larry Miller of Florida, Willie Bowman, III, of Louisiana, and also by generations of loving uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Jamila Joi gave us a lifetime of her warmth and tenderness during her short time on earth. There are not enough words to fully express our heartfelt thanks for prayers, love, and sympathy you’ve extended to our family during this time of loss. It will always be remembered.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at 2pm at Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Asheville, NC with a repast following at 700 Glenn Bridge Rd Arden, NC 28704.
