James Cecil Edward Weston, 63 Passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the home of his daughter Christine Allen.
He was born on October 1, 1959. In Weaverville, NC where he lived all of his life with the exception of the two years, he lived in New York and Connecticut.
Cecil was a member of Little Mt. Zion Baptist Church since his childhood. He was a deacon, a member of the choir, the finance committee of the Madison, and the Buncombe Fifth Sunday Union.
He was a member of many singing groups including The Golden Tones, United Souls, WestSound and Weston Brothers and Friends. He loved to sing, and to play the drums. One of his favorite songs was “Long As I Got King Jesus I Don’t Need Nobody Else.”
Cecil loved people, he especially loved his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren, he was a loving, friendly, always smiling, hard-working man who held many jobs. Cecil loved his work at Roses in Weaverville. Everyone who knew him knew he did not meet a stranger. Cecil also worked for Care Partners Asheville, NC. Additionally, he had a cleaning business. You name it he could do it!
He was preceded in death by his father, James William Weston, and his brother, Aaron Irby.
Left to cherish his memory: His mother Sarah Weston Hart, wife Michele Hemphill Weston, two daughters, Christina Allen of Asheville and Rochele Weston of Brevard, six grandchildren, Teresa Allen, Gilbert Whiteside, Shemarri Whiteside, Juan Allen, Tariah Federick, Tamiah Federick, three great-grandchildren Darian Mapp, Da’Mari Mapp and La’Anei Brinkley. One sister Robbie Weston, and three brothers Oscar Weston, Randy Weston and Stevie Weston.
His aunts: Joyce Oliphant, Gloria Sandford,(Asheville, NC.) Carrie Williams,(Greenville, SC) Alma J. Weston,(Asheville, NC) Nancy MaCaskill, and Mary C. Brooks (New York). His sister-in-law, Adrian Hemphill. He leaves behind a number of cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Cecil will be held at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church (47 Eagle St. Asheville, NC 28801) on Saturday February 25, 2023, at 1pm. He will lie in state from 12pm until the beginning of service. Viewing will be on Friday February 24, 2023 from 1pm until 7pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
