James Richard Bellamy, Sr.

James Richard Bellamy Sr. was born December 21, 1938, to the late Steve Bellamy Sr., and the late Nettie Montgomery Bellamy in Asheville. He received his Heavenly Wings on November 1, 2023, at the Oaks of Sweeten Creek here in Asheville.

Richard attended the Asheville City Schools and graduated from Stephens-Lee High School in 1958.

During his life tenure, he was employed at the Juvenile Evaluation Center as a Cottage parent, the NC Dept. of Corrections as a Probation-Parole Officer, and at Grove Park Inn as a Banquet Captain.  He was a past member of Venus Lodge 62, Gizeh Temple 162, and The Carlton Club.

Other than his parents, he was proceeded in death by brother Steve Bellamy, Jr., sister and brother-in-law Ella and  Bob Moss of Miami FL, brother-in-law Billy Hearst of Asheville, and nieces Carol, Cathy, and Clarissa of Miami FL.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 38 years Dorothy Earle Bellamy, son James Bellamy, Jr., stepdaughter Shenee Earle, sister Rosa B. Hearst of Asheville, brother-in-law Marshall Earle, sister-in-law Elaine G. Bellamy of Durham, sister-in-law Annie Ruth Morton of Phoenix, AR, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A Funeral Service to honor the life of James will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Hill Street Missionary Baptist Church (135 Hill Street) at 12pm. The family will receive friends one half hour prior to the funeral. Burial will immediately follow the funeral at Green Hill Cemetary. Viewing will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2023, from 1pm to 7pm at Avery's Memorial Chapel. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
