Ms. Helen Clayton Scott was born April 29, 1945, in Asheville, and departed this life on Saturday August 26, 2023, at The Laurels of Greentree after a long fight with her illness.
Helen was the second oldest of five children born to the late Helen Clayton Moore and Issac Samuel Clayton. Helen was preceded in death by her sons Reggie Scott and Frank Scott, her brother Issac Clayton and Great nephew Kavon Clayton. A lifelong resident of Asheville, she attended Stephens Lee High. She was employed at Mission Hospital for 39 years where she was a dietary aide, worked her way up to a dietary supervisor, and finished her career in the catering department before retiring at age 62. She also was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Fletcher, where she served faithfully on the Woman's Ministry.
Helen was so full of life! After her retirement she went on to enjoying life and doing what she loved to do most which was spending more time with her grandkids and family, sleeping in (which meant don't call her before 12pm), shopping at her favorite stores (Dickies, Go Grocery and Walmart), and hanging out with her friends.
Left to Cherish her memories are daughters Gwendolyn Scott Wilson (Ronnie), and Georgia Gates both of Asheville, sister Barbara Allen (Arnold) of Asheville, brothers Jerry Clayton of Asheville, and Leon Clayton (Teresa) of Atlanta, GA, grandchildren Lakesha Scott, Shareka Scott, Erika Gates, Terrell Gates, Terrence Gates, Teresa Camp and Lauren Scott, 10 great-grands, 5 great-great-grands, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Ms. Scott will be held on Saturday September 9, 2023, at St. John Baptist Church (14 Legend Dr. Arden, NC), at 2pm. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Viewing will be held at Avery's Memorial Chapel on Friday September 8, 2023, from 12pm to 7pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
