Mrs. Gloria Ann Logan Johnson affectionately known as “Glo” departed this life on Monday morning, April 12, 2021 at Memorial Mission Hospital after a period of declining health.
Born January 18, 1950 in Union County South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late A.C. Logan and the late Lena Logan. She was educated in the Union County School System, Lee Edwards High School in Asheville North Carolina and later studied at Cecil’s Business College and a graduate of Church of God In Christ Academy and became a licensed Missionary.
She was President of both her local and district usher board, and a dedicated member of the City Wide Usher Board. She trained many in this capacity.
Glo worked at Memorial Mission Hospital and retired from Aetna Insurance Company. Her enterprise also included working as a tax consultant and medical billing.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of Holy Tabernacle/Fruit of The Spirit, Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Pastor Darrell L. Sullivan, Sr.
An avid community activist, Mrs. Johnson’s accomplishments included: working on the food service committee, community outreach, President of West Asheville Community and initiated programs like drug eradication, community prayer, community clean-up and organized Songs of Jubilee which encouraged and brought unity to her community.
She was known for her jovial and witty personality! She was called the Mayor of West Asheville or Mrs. 911. Her personality touched the lives of many, and many were encouraged to live a better life because of her influence.
Glo was preceded in death by her parents, sister Gwendolyn Logan, grandson Tyheim Bolden, and brothers Wallace Walker and Leroy Glenn.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her loving husband of 51 years who was also her caregiver Elder David V. Johnson, Sr., three sons, Stephen Brian Bolden, David V. Johnson, Jr. of Asheville, and Hugh F. Johnson, II of Raleigh, North Carolina, sister Judy Jones of Union, South Carolina, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 3 special nieces who were like daughters, Lena Logan Lytle, Sherry Jackson and Nicole Glenn, brother -in- law Hugh F. Johnson, sisters-in-law Betty Johnson, Shirley J. Gragg and Johanna Johnson, and a host of other relatives, friends and numerous spiritual sons and daughters.
She will be greatly missed but she left a great legacy for us to remember.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gloria Ann Logan Johnson will be held on Saturday, April 24th at 1pm at First Nazareth Missionary Church located on 146 Pine Street Street Asheville, NC. Burial will be held on Monday, April 26th at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC at 10am. Viewing will be held Thursday, April 22nd from 10am - 5pm, and Friday, April 23rd from 10am - 7pm at Avery's Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral. Services will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
