Mr. Gale Mackey, 83, of Brevard, NC, entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 5, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born August 6, 1942, to a loving family who instilled in him the values of hard work, faith, and service to others.
Gale was a proud graduate of 9th Avenue High School, in Hendersonville, NC, where he built friendships and values that would guide him throughout his life. After High School he attended North Carolina A&T State University (Aggie Pride), where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. His dedication and determination led him to a successful career with DuPont, where he worked as a supervisor and mechanical engineer. Beyond his professional career, Gale honored his father’s legacy by continuing the family business, “Mackey Sanitation,” serving his community with pride and commitment.
A man of many passions, Gale enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching NASCAR, and never grew tired of watching old Western movies. His love for family and his devotion to those around him will be remembered by all who knew him.
On life’s journey, Gale was blessed to share 65 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Patricia Moore Mackey. Together, they raised four children, building a strong family rooted in love, respect, and faith. Gale’s family was his greatest joy and poured his heart into guiding and supporting them. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Gale was preceded in death by his father and mother Cleo and AllieBelle Mackey, his sister Andrea Casey, and brother-in-law Raymond McCants.
Gale leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and dedication. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Moore Mackey, children DaTresa Davis (Larry), of Cheraw, SC, Linda Mackey, of Brevard, NC, Gale Mackey, Jr., (Trentha), of Lake Toxaway, NC, and April Douglas (Nigel), of Brevard, NC, five grandchildren Courtney, Ernest, Corey, Aubrey, and Keelan, and three great-grandchildren Zion, Ameris, and Adonis. He is also survived by his sister Linda McCants, of Brevard, NC, two sisters-in-law Diane Moore and Josephine Charlton, his aunt Rose McKee, one honorary daughter LeTitia Robinson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to cherish his memory.
Though Gale has departed this earthly life, his legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched. His love, wisdom, and laughter will remain with his family and friends forever.
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Gale will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church (20 Mills Ave., Brevard, NC), at 1pm. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory immediately following the funeral. He can be viewed on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Avery's Memorial Chapel from 1pm - 7pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
