Eugene Jones Obituary

Eugene Jones Sr, passed in peace on May 12th, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a native of Mars Hill, and was born on July 2, 1932 to Eugene Jones and Tessie Rucker.

Eugene will always be remembered for his undivided devotion to the love of his life, Barbara Porter Jones. Together they shared 63 years of marriage and raised five children. As a dedicated husband and father, he took pride in his role as the provider. He knew that the secret to success was hard work. Eugene worked for Champions International Papermill in Canton for 20 years. Upon his retirement, he opened his own carpentry business which he maintained until 2018.

He was a man of the church and a child of God in which he served the Lord in many capacities. He attended and became a lifetime member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and vice president of the Fifth Sunday Union. An active and vibrant man, Eugene also committed his time to serving as a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 60 years.

Eugene was proceeded in death by his firstborn son Eugene Jones, Jr, but is survived by his loving wife Barbara, two sons William and Gary both of Asheville, two daughters, Belinda L. White of Greensboro and Bridget R. Jones of Asheville, eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and two great, great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Eugene Jones, Sr. will be laid to rest in a private family service.
