Ethel Crenshaw Layton departed this life peacefully Monday evening December 13, 2021, at the age of 90 years young.

She was born to the late Leonard Crenshaw and the late Lula Whitener Crenshaw on November 14, 1931, in Easton, Pennsylvania.

She attended Stephens-Lee High School and was a lifelong member of Hill Street Baptist Church Asheville NC.

Ethel worked in the textile industry at American Enka until the factory closure. She then went to Grove Park Inn, where she served as a waitperson and hostess with strong emphasis on food service responsibilities until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband Boyce Howard Layton Sr., and a sister, Ruby Crenshaw.

Ethel was affectionately known as "Aunt Cat" by her family. She was a quiet, compassionate, caring, loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.

She leaves to cherish her memory daughters Anita Campbell (James) of Charlotte, NC and Sherry Layton of Columbus, Ohio, son Boyce Howard Layton Jr. of Asheville, NC, grandsons Patrick Sexton and Antony Hallum, sister Sarah Finch of Winston-Salem NC, several nieces, nephews, cousins, caring friends and neighbors.

A memorial service will be held at a date to be determined later.
