Doris Marie Brooks known to everyone as “Fatty” of Brevard, NC was born December 14, 1960, in Louisville, KY to the late Charles Clarence Brooks and her surviving mother Ora Robinson Parham (Ronald) of Etowah, NC. She was the fifth of six children and was raised in Brevard NC after moving from Louisville, KY with her family during her teenage years.

Doris gained her wings and went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday July 19, 2022, in her home in Brevard, NC. She was surrounded by her children, family, and friends as she transitioned. 

She attended Brevard High School where she graduated and received her high school diploma in 1978.

Doris had a big heart especially for children, so she became employed for many years at You and Me Kids Childcare Facility in Brevard, NC. She loved to cook and fed everyone just like her grandmothers Mrs. Dolly Brooks (Deceased) and Mrs. Selena Robinson (Deceased), she worked as a Manager at KFC in Brevard and in foodservice at Borg Warner in Asheville, NC. During her time at Borg Warner, she also worked as a caterer in Asheville, NC.

Doris had a sweet spirit, loving heart, and was full of joy and laughter. She had many friends and made friends because of her “BIG” personality and sense of humor! Her children, grandchildren and family were the love of her life. As she dealt with some health challenges, she still had her way of making you laugh and keeping you entertained, no matter how she felt!

Doris developed a love relationship with the Lord by faithfully watching St. John Baptist Church in virtual worship service on Facebook live! She was not able to physically come to fellowship. Doris became a member of the congregation. She loved the preaching and the worship experience. However, during the past few months, she found a spiritual connection with Pastor Gwen Jones, who was her classmate, who became her prayer partner, her encourager, and most of all – her Pastor who covered her through her sickness. Pastor Gwen used these words “God has got you” from the scripture Isaiah 41:10, and Doris used these words to help her through some challenging moments in her life, because she believed in her heart and received that God got her and she got Him! In addition to her father and grandmothers, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Brooks.

Left to Cherish her memory are her three daughters, Latasha Brooks, and Lachelle Brooks of Brevard, NC and Lamese Daugherty of Hendersonville, NC, five grandsons Nykeem Brooks, Enyja Brooks, Emari Daugherty, Mehki-Lee Daugherty, and Zakari Daugherty, two great grandchildren, Aviana Brooks, and Novian Brooks, siblings Brothers, Michael Dodson (Susan) of Washington, DC. Charles “Chucky” Brooks of Brevard NC, Sisters Myra “Dee Dee” Kilgore of Asheville, NC. Rosaline Gordon (Trent) of Fletcher, NC. Stepbrother, Kenneth Parham of Harrisburg, Stepsister Debora Beauvais (Lori) of Decherd, TN and a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins. Doris will be missed, and we will forever hold her memory of her life in our hearts!

A Memorial Service will be held to honor the life of Ms. Doris Brooks on Saturday, August 6,2022 at Bethel A Baptist Church, located at 290 Oakdale Street Brevard, NC 28712
