(Due to Covid-19 concerns, all who attend the Funeral Service are REQUIRED to wear a face mask and practice social distancing)
Dewanna Mechele Gilliland Hayes Tucker was born on February 4, 1970 to Paul Gilliland and Rebecca Hayes in Asheville, NC. She grew up and spent most of her life in Asheville. She attended Asheville High School and worked at Mission Hospital. Dewanna also served as a private duty caretaker.
Dewanna loved beautiful things and was known for her skills in interior decorating. As the first official majorette for the Hillcrest High Stepping Majorette & Drum Core, Dewanna would often spend many evenings choreographing steps and routines in the yard.
Although Dewanna received numerous medical reports from her medical providers, she kept the faith and believed in healing until her last breath. After receiving her most recent report, Dewanna said, “I’m gonna be ready”. She re-affirmed her faith and we can rest assured that all is well with her soul. Dewanna has received her healing and is no longer suffering. For that we are grateful to God.
Dewanna departed this life on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. She was proceeded in death by her father, Paul Gilliland and her maternal grandmother, Lillie King. In addition to her loving mother, she leaves to cherish her memory, her son Darren Hayes.
