David Whiteside Obituary

David Whiteside's sunrise began on July 19, 1953 in Bevard, North Carolina. He was the fourth born out of the total of nine born to Frank Cross Whiteside and Ruth Mary Whiteside. David completed his education at Brevard High School, class of 1972. During his academic career, he participated in athletics like football and wrestling. Shortly after graduating, David enlisted with the United States Navy, from 1972-1985 (served in the Vietnam era). During his time of service, David worked as a boiler operator on ships like the U.S.S. Ortolan ASR-22, U.S.S. Shenandoah AD-26, U.S.S. Sylvania AFS-2, and U.S.S. Austin LPD-4. This honor to serve his country not only gifted him life long skills but it also allowed him to travel the world and explore various cultures. David continued his engineering specialty as a career for the next +25 years thereafter as a government contractor.

Although Brevard is still his heart, Fredericksburg, Virginia has happily been home for David, his wife Carman Diane Whiteside, their four children, and two grandchildren for the last +20 years. David was highly family oriented and valued quality time with all of his loved ones; no matter the distance. Not only would he tell his family that he loved them but he would show it every chance he had the opportunity. David would also extend this love to his friends, often valuing whatever time he could put into his friendships. Charity was also in his nature and David would give his last if another needed it.

David enriched his life with various hobbies and interests such as fishing, doing handy work, watching sports (Eagles soaring high!), thriller movies and westerns, engaging in trivia, conversing about history and politics, working on crossword puzzles, traveling, catching up with news/current events, and playing board games like Monopoly. David's musical taste included musical artists like Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Deniece Williams, Rose Royce, The Gap Band, and Gladys Knight; the list goes on! David was the type of man to be grateful for everyday he got to wake to the light of a new day. He would always credit his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for his blessings. As he grew in Christ, David nourished his spiritual side by reading his Bible daily, praying and being an active participant in his church Pure Religion Family Ministries in Fredericksburg, Virginia. David also had the honor to serve as a Deacon in his church. David's love for Christ personified as he worked hard to exemplify the teachings of Jesus Christ.

David's sunset was on April 24, 2024, surrounded by loved ones in his home as they concluded songs and Christian hymns. He departed this world to be with Christ, leaving behind his wife Carman; his daughters Keianna, Brandy, Kirstin, and Jasmine; his grandsons Roshuan and Tyrell; his eight siblings; Gail, Gilbert, Alice, Mary, Sharon, Terry, Derrick and John; his three aunts Josephine, Ann, and Diane; his uncle Gail; as well as in-laws, other relatives, and many lifelong friends.
