Cornelia Lillie Lowery-Streeter was born on April 1, 1934 in Canton, North Carolina and departed this life December 9, 2021. Daughter of the late Morris and Naomi Freeman-Lowery, she was one of 15 siblings. Known affectionately as “Sweet Pea” by those close to her, she was raised in Canton, NC and graduated from Reynolds High School. She continued her education at Kate Bitting Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Winston Salem, NC, where she was crowned “Miss Katie Bee'' in 1956, to become a career registered nurse. 

On September 6, 1958, she wed her beloved husband the late Wilbur Eugene Steeeter Sr. The two raised a beautiful family together in Asheville, NC. Sweet Pea leaves behind a family dedicated to cherishing the memories they were blessed to create together. In her 87 years on earth, Cornelia created a lasting legacy that will be upheld by those she left behind. She will be remembered for her strong nature and warm spirit. 

Cornelia is survived by her 2 daughters Renee’ Bruton, wife of Theodore, and Shelia Womble, wife of Monteith, and her 2 sons Wilbur Jr., husband of Gail, and James, husband of Pamela. Her grandchildren are Terrill Bruton, Ashleigh Armstrong, wife of Darren, Aundrea Bruton, Alexander Streeter, Shealynn Womble, Dieonta Byrd, and Skylar Streeter, along with great-grandchildren, Aria, TaHarie, Logan, Jordyn, Emari, Kashh, Ayla, Drianna, Dyanna, and Devareus Jr. Cornelia also has a brother Winslow and his wife Donna Lowery, a sister Brenda Stoner, brother-in-law Vaughn “Stedman” Streeter; 3 sisters-in-law, Wilhelmina Streeter, Floree Lowery, and Alyce Lowery; godsons Mychael Smith and James "Puff" Foster, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Home Going Service for Mrs. Cornelia "Sweet Pea" Streeter will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 1pm at Nazareth First Missionary Baptist Church located at 146 Pine Street in Asheville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will immediately follow at Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens located at 7374 Carolina Blvd. in Clyde, NC. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Face Book page.
