Clyde Lawson Waters, Jr., often referred to as "Papa Clyde," a native of Asheville, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Born on July 7, 1941, his life was marked by a commitment to service, faith, community, and reaching countless individuals through his ministry with dedication to helping others. He served as a long time Trustee at The Church at Asheville.
Clyde graduated in 1959 from Stephens - Lee High School and continued his education at Clark College in Atlanta. After completing his studies, he served as counselor at the Juvenile Detention Center, where he touched the lives of many young individuals, guiding them towards a better path.
For 27 years, Clyde was the director of The Men's Club at the YMCA, a role in which he fulfilled his passion for mentoring and uplifting. Upon his retirement, the YMCA renamed the gym after Clyde to honor his work and dedication.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Clyde Waters, Sr., and Mary Waters, son Clyde Waters, III, daughter Deidre Waters, brother Freddie Waters, and Evelyn Waters.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Deborah Chambers Waters, children Anthony Waters, Veronica Jackson, Eddie Wells (Donna Lynn), Greg Wells (Suprena), Cassandra Chambers (Eddie), and Elizabeth Chambers, niece Angela Waters, nephew Freddie Waters, Jr., (Brenda), Elaine Waters, 22 grandchildren, 22 great - grandchildren, and a multitude of family and friends.
A Memorial Service to honor the life of Papa Clyde will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at The Church at Asheville (79 Piney Mountain Dr.), at 2pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be given to The Church at Asheville Missions Fund.

Deborah appreciates all the kind words and memories of Clyde. He was the love of her life and will never be forgotten!
