Claude Henry Young, Jr.

Claude “CY” Young Jr. gained his wings on Friday June 2, 2023. He was born on March 24, 1941 and was a native of Sylva, N.C. He was the son of the late Claude H. Young Jr. & Alvertus Davis-Young. He was preceded in death by his stepson Charles “Tank” Thompson & nephew Andre Pabon. 
 

CY was a graduate of Jackson H.S. class of 1959. He began working at the early age of 18 as a cook at Western Carolina University. He later went on to work at Dupont Manufacturing where he retired twice. CY loved watching westerns and was an avid golfer, he was even featured in the film “Muni” a documentary that aired on the Golf Chanel in 2020. In his love of golf, you could find him on the green on Fairway Dr. 4 days a week playing a round of golf at the Asheville Municipal Golf Course where he was also employed. 

CY was a loving Husband, Father, Brother and, an amazing friend. Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife Olivia White Young. His children Sherry Young, Claude H. Young III, Michelle Young (Sebastian Atkins), Shawn Young, Stevie Underwood, and Nicky Underwood. His Stepchildren Paschel “PJ” White (Jasman), Perez White (Kelly), and Antonn Bailey. His Sister Alberta Pabon and a host of Grandchildren (23 Grands, and 9 Great-grandchildren), nieces, nephews, and friends. 

A Funeral Service to honor the life of Mr. Claude Young will be held on Saturday June 10, 2023, at Nazareth First Missionary Baptist Church (146 Pine St.), at 1pm. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the funeral at Sunset Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Thursday June 8, 2023, from 2pm till 5pm, and Friday June 9, 2023, from 12pm till 7pm at Avery's Memorial Chapel. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
