Charles Williams was born in Asheville N.C, March 14, 1953 to late Ralph Lindsey & Fredia Cannady Williams. He was one of 4 siblings, two of which proceeded him in death “brother Michael Williams & sister Gertrude Harris”. Left to cherish his memory is his sister Beverly Williams.
Charles attended The Asheville City Schools and enlisted in the Marines where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan before returning to Asheville. He lived in Washington, D.C where he fathered his daughter Tamara Williams, and helped raised Libby & Termain Kyles. He then moved back to Asheville, N.C where he spent a lot of time training and raising dogs in his off time. He worked at the VA Hospital and Asheville Middle School as a Custodian over 12 years and due to his health had to retire from the Asheville City School System. His greatest joy was helping to raise his grandson’s, Darrien and Trevon Williams. He has never met a stranger and despite his health problems he made it a habit of calling family members and friends each week to check on them and make sure they were alright. He enjoyed weekly dinners that family members Marilyn & David Benjamin provided.
God blessed him to have a double lung transplant in 2007 at the Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C. His nephew Charles D. Williams which was named after him and known to others as “Danny” drove him there every couple of months to make sure there were no signs of rejection with the lungs. Sonya King as a certified nurse cared for Charles over the years during his sickness. Libby Kyles spent a lot of time traveling to Durham to be with him during the last weeks of his life. The doctors told him that he would only live for 7 years but God granted him 14 years. He made his transition to his heavenly home September 25, 2021. He believed you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
He is preceded in death by his mother Fredia Cannady Williams, his father Ralph Lindsey, brother Michael Williams and sister Gertrude Harris.
Left to cherish his memory are daughters; Tamara Williams of Virginia, Libby Kyles of Asheville, son Termain Kyles of South Africa, sister Beverly Williams of Georgia, grandsons; Darrien Williams of Texas, Trevon Williams of Virginia, many nieces, nephews, family members and friends, special care givers Sonya King, Danny Williams and special friend Pearl Kyles.
