Mr. Charles Henry Smith, son of the late Stell Smith and the late Bernice Cross Smith, was born April 21, 1942, in Watkinsville Georgia. He departed this life on Monday, September 2, 2024.
He retired from Coke-a-Cola Bottling Company in 1997 after 24 years of service. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working in real estate, and construction. Along with his wife, he was founder and owner of Lots of Love Childcare for 32 years. A devoted husband, and loving father, he truly loved and cherished his family. He especially enjoyed family gatherings and reunions where there was sure to be plenty of laughter and stories. Charles had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great storyteller. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching Court TV. Even though small in stature, Charles had a big heart. At Lots of Love Childcare, he was affectionately known as “Daddy Charles,” but he will always be remembered by his grandchildren and great-grandson as “Paw Paw”. He enjoyed attending Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church where he was a faithful member.
He was preceded in death by brothers James Smith, Herbert Smith, Cleveland Smith and wife Neva, sister Alberta Stanley and husband Reverend David Stanley, and granddaughter X-Zavia Young.
He is survived by his wife Dale Smith, daughters Yvonne Smith (Keith), Barbara Smith, Stacy Smith Langston (Martin), and Yolanda Battle (Jermaine), sons Charles Smith, II, and Matthew Smith, grandchildren Akelia Young, Mia Young, Jermon Battle, Javon Battle, and Caden Langston, great-grandson Loyal Young, sisters Francis Smith, Diane Smith, and Ruby Jordan, brothers Joseph Smith (Louise), Fred Smith (Lee), and Larry Smith (Rose), sister-in-law Diane Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Charles will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Nazareth First Missionary Baptist Church (146 Pine St.), at 2pm. He will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be held at Violet Hill Cemetery immediately following the service. Viewing will be held ONLY on Saturday from 1pm - 2pm, at which time the casket will be closed prior to the beginning of the funeral.
