Charles Miller, 74, was born on October 3, 1951, to the union of Mr. David and Mrs. Alberta Miller in Asheville, NC. He departed this earthly life and ascended to his heavenly home, surrounded by his family, on Monday, January 5, 2026. He was the youngest of the Miller family and was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, William Miller, Cornelius Miller, and Rev. Henry Miller; and his sisters, Louella McDaniels, Betty Simpson, and Stella Miller.
From an early age, he loved sports and enjoyed watching football. For many years, he was a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers, but as time went on, he became a big fan of the Carolina Panthers.
After matriculating through Asheville City Schools and attending Asheville High School, Charles began building a life he was proud of in Asheville. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior and served his church in many capacities throughout his life. He was a lifelong member of Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church and became a deacon under the pastorage of Rev. Benjamin F. Brewer and continued to serve faithfully under Elder Alfred E. Blount. He was also a member of the Tried Stone Young Adult Choir, Men United for Christ, and, for many years, served as a custodian.
Throughout his life, he worked diligently to provide for himself and his family, ultimately spending the bulk of his career working for and retiring from Carolina Tractor. After retirement, he worked for CarePartners Asheville and volunteered with Meals on Wheels of Asheville & Buncombe County.
Charles was a proud family man who served as a provider, protector, and source of love for everyone connected to him, both immediate and extended. On August 25, 1979, he married the former Mary Elizabeth Williams, and they shared 36 years of marriage until she transitioned from this earthly realm to her heavenly home on their anniversary in 2015.
In addition to his wife, parents, and siblings, Charles was preceded in death by his son, Charles Thomas “Tommy” Miller.
Though his time on Earth has ended, the memories of the love he shared and the life he lived will forever be remembered by those he leaves behind. He is survived by his sons, Rodney Robinson, LaDarrell G. Miller, and Steven L. Miller; his daughter, LaToya Y. Williams of Asheville; daughter-in-law, Jakuise Miller; 18 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brothers- and sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends, including a special friend, Jean McQueen.
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Charles will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at his home church, Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church (100 Carroll Ave.), at 12pm. Elder Alfred E. Blount, pastor, will officiate and serve as eulogist. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler. Viewing will be held at Avery's Memorial Chapel on Monday, January 12, 2026, from 12pm – 7pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
