Charles Edward Smith, affectionately known as “Cool Breeze,” was born June 25,1962 in Saint Louis, MO. He was the son of the late James Smith, Sr., and the late Edna Posey Smith.
Charles was a DJ in various clubs and was also a devoted follower of the Lord. His last word before entering into eternity was “LORD!” He was known for his caring and generous nature, and always willing to give you the shirt off his back.
Charles attended Asheville City Schools and cherished his family. He also attended church.
Other than his parents, he was also preceded in in death by grandmother Lola Lee Landrum Crowder who raised him, brother Leroy Posey, sister Deborah Smith, and brother-in-law Kenneth Smith.
Left to cherish his memory is brother James Smith, Jr., sister Loretta Smith, special cousin Shirley Kerr of Greenville, SC, nephews Ronald Posey, Eric Posey, Kanan Smith, James Smith (Jasmine), and Karter Fortune, nieces Kimberly Posey, Jaelae Smith, Cassaundra Smith, Tramaine Shade Tingle (Julian), Hasia Smith, Amiyah Wright, Zoe Wright, Joanna Smith, and Ashley Jackson, and many more cousins, family members and friends
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Charles will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Worldwide Baptist Tabernacle Church (85 Choctaw St.), at 12pm. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the service at Sunset Cemetery. Viewing will be held at Avery's Memorial Chapel on Friday, April 3, 2026, from 1pm - 7pm.
