A native of Asheville, North Carolina, Cathis Marie Hall, was educated in the public school system. From her earliest days in elementary school where she was chastised for her loquacious approach to class interactions, broadcast media was in her future. To that end, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Radio, Television, and Film from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1980, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She subsequently received a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Media from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina in 1984.
Ms. Hall has a plethora of experience in the field of broadcast media that extends throughout radio station management, supervision, budgeting, fundraising, grant writing, education, and training. During her career, Ms. Hall managed various radio stations. These positions included: General Manager of WBCC Radio at Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida; Station Manager and Program Director at WVST Radio, a professionally staffed FM Station, at Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia; and General Manager at WSHA Radio at Shaw University, Raleigh, North Carolina.
A lifelong educator, Ms. Hall also has held a stellar career in the field of teaching at several institutions of higher education. Teaching positions included employment as an instructor in the Department of Mass Communications at Bethune-Cookman College, Daytona Beach, Florida; Lecturer in the Department of Radio, Television, and Film at Howard University in Washington, D.C.; Adjunct Instructor, Department of Languages and Literature at Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia; and Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Radio, Television, and Film at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. She also volunteered with various area nonprofit organizations to assist facets of the communities for whom the radio stations were licensed to serve.
A Christian, Ms. Hall has been a member of several churches and passionately read and studied the Bible throughout her lifetime. After her retirement, she focused on fulfilling her spiritual purpose and mission. She co-led a Prayer and Praise Teleconference that started during the pandemic in 2020 and continues until today. The teleconference has been instrumental in praying for countless people and witnessed divine healings and answered prayer. Moreover, she also successfully started a YouTube channel entitled “Powerful Personal Prayers.”
Wherever she resided in diverse parts of the country during her career, she developed enduring friendships and maintained relationships through countless hours talking on the phone long distance about the Word of God, laughing at the hilarious aspects of life, debating various topics, consoling the broken-hearted, and doling out advice. She made her mark on the world and will be sorely missed.
