Carolyn Copeland Obituary

Carolyn Louise Daugherty Copeland was born on January 2, 1939, in Black Mountain to the late Nelson Daugherty and the late Inez Daugherty. She entered into eternal rest with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 4, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with health challenges.

Carolyn was a proud graduate of Stephens-Lee High School in Asheville, Class of 1957. She furthered her education at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, where she earned a certificate in Central Service Technician Training and Basic Surgical Instrumentation. She later became a Certified Practical Nurse. Carolyn dedicated many years of service to her work, retiring from Superior Modular in Swannanoa. Even in retirement, her strong work ethic led her to return to the Family Dollar on a part-time basis. She also served as an Eastern Star for many years.

On August 31, 1958, Carolyn married the love of her life Buford Copeland, beginning a lifelong union filled with love and devotion that spanned 67 years. She was a devoted wife and a loving dedicated mother. Their union was blessed with three daughters, whom she loved beyond measure.

A woman of style and grace, Carolyn was rarely seen without a beautifully coordinated outfit, often complemented by a matching pocketbook. Beyond her elegance, she possessed a deep and abiding faith in God that guided her daily life. Her love for gospel music was evident in her singing, which reflected the joy and strength of her spirit. She was also known for her delicious, flavorful cakes, which she lovingly shared with others.

Carolyn had a passion for sports, especially basketball and football, and she had a wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to those around her. She was a pillar of strength, faith, and unconditional love, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, warmth, and an enduring impact.

Other than her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter Tepe Straite, sisters Lorraine Bracey and Geneva Philpot, and brother Frederick Daugherty.

Carolyn leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughters Arlene Copeland of Charlotte, Dr. R. Lynne Copeland of Black Mountain, and bonus daughter Agnes Copeland of Black Mountain, grandchildren Tiffany Fair of Georgia, Teresa Fair of Alabama, Trevor (Jessica) of North Carolina, Alisha of California, Herschel of Charlotte, and Hughston (Mariela) of Charlotte, sisters Ann Daugherty and Patsy Turner, great-grandchildren Elijah, Noah, Nia, Jeremiah, Angel, Alaliyah, Messiah and Peyton, and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

“I am free, praise the Lord, I’m free! No longer bound, no more chains holding me. My soul is resting, it’s such a blessing. I was ready to take flight, and now I am free and home at last.”
