Azalee Collins Davidson “Lee,” of 11 Rosewood Ave Asheville, NC, was born on April 2,1932. She peacefully went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2023 at The Oaks Rehabilitation Center. Azalee was the daughter of the late William and Mary Collins. She was also proceeded in death by her husband Johny Davidson, daughter Gloria D. Collins, and her sister Carrie King.
Azalee attended Ninth Ave High School in Hendersonville, NC. She worked for decades for the Carl Sandburg family as a caregiver/ housekeeper. She quickly became more than a caregiver…… she became family. Lee worked diligently in many roles at Greater New Zion Baptist Church. She was a member of The Missionary Sisters, and a “Mother” of the church. Azalee was honored to be the chairperson of The Penny Club, of which she, her mother Mary Collins, and her aunt Martha Copeland were the founders of. A club which was formed to aid the community. Lee also enjoyed traveling. During her travels, she went to Germany to visit her son Steve who was stationed there. She loved cooking, gardening, bingo, and spending time with her family.
Surviving to cherish her memory is her son Steve Davidson (Donna) of Atlanta, GA, brothers James Collins and William Hary Collins (Mary) of Fletcher, sisters Winnie Pulley (Willie), and Helen White (James) of Fletcher, grandchildren Steve Davidson and Tierra Davidson of Atlanta, GA, and Rahman Garner of Asheville, six great-grand-Children, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. A special thanks to Sheree Mills, Anne Mills, and Alberta Littlejohn, her special friends.
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Mrs. Azalee Davidson will be held on Tuesday May 9, 2023, at St. John Baptist Church (14 Legend Dr., Arden) at 12pm. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow the service at Patty's Chapel (Patty's Chapel Rd., Fletcher). Viewing will be held on Monday May 8, 2023 at Greater New Zion Baptist Church (38 Talley Dr., Fletcher) from 5pm - 8pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
