Arthur Watley Sr., 79, was born in Greenville, South Carolina, June 2, 1942. He graduated from Stephens-Lee in Asheville, and continued his studies at a two-year business trade school in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, received several certifications as a mechanical technician.
On August 25, 1969, Arthur Watley Sr. was united in holy wedlock to the former Rosemary Timbers and together they fashioned a family of three children, Arthur Watley Jr. (Kim), Bryan Watley (Cassandra), Katina Shackelford (Julian), nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by father Ansel Watley, mother Willie Lee Watley, brother Walter Watley, and sister Bobby Watley.
He leaves to cherish his life, his wife Rosemary Timbers Watley, sons Arthur Jr. (Kim) of Charlotte, Bryan (Cassandra) of Charlotte, daughter Katina Shackelford (Julian) of Charlotte, brothers James (Cecelia) of Burlington, Otto (Cynthia) of Asheville, David (Dorothy) of Clayton, sisters Joann W. Darity (John) and Anna Watley both of Asheville, sister-in-law JoAnn Payne Watley, nine grandchildren, Briana, Desiree’, Tamia, Symone, Asia, Bryson, Dominique, Ciera, Myles, great-grandson Makaio, and a host of relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Arthur Watley Sr., will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 12pm at Cross Road Church, 20 South Bear Creek Road, NC Asheville. He will lie is state 1 hour prior to the service. Viewing will be from 11am until 7pm on Tuesday, April 12th at Avery’s Memorial Chapel. Interment will immediately follow the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
