Arthur Kevin Simmons, 61, of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 27, 2025. Born on December 30, 1963, Arthur was a proud Navy veteran who dedicated his life to serving his country and worked diligently to build a life he was proud of. He grew up in a loving family that shaped his values of integrity and perseverance.
Arthur was a proud graduate of Asheville High School, Class of 1982, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He also attended a fine arts school, where he discovered his passion for the performing arts. His beautiful smile and infectious laughter brought joy to others, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He was a devoted husband to Annette Simmons. He was immensely proud of his family, including his daughter, Mia Terry Simpson (Charles), and his stepchildren, Doneka Terry (Quinneshia), Dexter Terry, Theodore Philson (Mariah), and Late Therian Terry. His grandchildren, Marley Philson, Luke Simpson, Tyler Simpson, and Ziyon Whitner, brought him immense joy and pride.
Arthur was passionate about the UNC Tar Heels and the Carolina Panthers, often enjoying spirited discussions about his favorite teams. His loyalty to his family and sports teams showcased the depth of his character and his love for those he held dear.
He is survived by his loving mother, Oralene Simmons, and his beloved sisters, Rhonda (Thomas) Sloan, Sheila Simmons, and Kyle (Donna) Simmons, Namurah (Jonathan) Blakely. Arthur was preceded in death by his father, the late Arthur Gene "Boyd" Simmons. His family meant everything to him, and he cherished the bonds he formed with each member.
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Kevin will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Nazareth First Missionary Baptist Church (146 Pine St.) at 2pm. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025, at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery in Black Mountain, at 12pm. Viewing will be on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 12pm to 7pm at Avery's Memorial Chapel. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
Arthur Kevin Simmons will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering support will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
